Tradition combined with Modernism. Ticking, the tightly woven ‘mattress stipe’; first used in the 1600’s in America, forms the basis of this haberdashery feast. A play on opposites – Positive and Negative space, Vertical and Horizontal planes.

Six areas worked in graded colour with an unconventional small cut stitch of my making. Inspiration from Japanese simplicity. Work 38 x 46cm, frame 43 x 53cm

A large natural black sheep wool rug made from sheared fleece rather than sheepskin. Two fleeces placed side by side with the nap going in opposite directions. Carefully overturned, placed on my protected felting table then three fine layers of black dyed Merino systematically placed on top in alternating directions. Felted until well bonded together. Washed repeatedly in the bath and then dried naturally. Made for the grandchildren to play on at Christmas. About two meters square. Not for sale but will consider repeating

Designed to be worn across the body, gender neutral. Inspired by First Nation Canadian Art. Made from raw fleece of given Jacob, Hebridean and Whiteface Woodland sheep. Constructed in a single piece of felt, worked until really tough. Remains in use.
